CAREFUL

How to Log Out

Introduction

Logging out of CAREFUL securely ends your session and protects patient confidentiality. When you log out, the system clears your access credentials and disconnects any active chat sessions, requiring you to sign in again to access the platform.

Before You Start

No special permissions required. All users can log out at any time.

Important security note: CAREFUL automatically logs you out after 7 minutes of inactivity to protect patient data. You'll receive a warning 1 minute before the automatic logout occurs.

Steps
Desktop
  1. Locate the Log Out link at the bottom of the sidebar navigation menu (below the Help link)
  2. Click Log Out
  3. You'll be immediately redirected to the login page

The system will:

  • Disconnect any active chat sessions
  • Clear your access credentials from the browser
  • Reset all session data
What Happens When You Log Out

No confirmation dialog appears — logout happens immediately when you click the link. You'll see the login page and will need to enter your credentials again to access CAREFUL.

All unsaved work in forms or dialogs will be lost, so make sure to save any changes before logging out.

Tips
  • Log out regularly when working in shared or public spaces to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Before going off duty: Consider handing over your patients to colleagues before logging out, especially if you're responsible for active patients
  • Browser session storage: CAREFUL stores your session in the browser's session storage (not cookies), so closing the browser tab also ends your session
  • Automatic timeout: If you forget to log out, CAREFUL will automatically log you out after 7 minutes of inactivity
  • No "set off duty" option in main flow: While there is a settings page with a checkbox for "Also set me to off duty when I log out," this setting is currently not implemented in the logout process. To set yourself off duty, do this manually from your user profile before logging out
