How to Set Yourself On and Off Duty

Introduction

Setting your duty status helps your team know when you're available to receive handover requests and notifications. When you're on duty, you'll receive push notifications for urgent updates. When you're off duty, notifications are paused and colleagues know you're unavailable.

Before You Start

No special permissions required. All organisational users can set their own duty status. Organisation administrators can also set duty status for other users.

Steps
Setting Your Duty Status from Your Profile

This is the primary method for changing your duty status:

  1. Click on your profile section in the left sidebar (shows your name and current duty status).
  2. Your user profile page opens, showing your full name with a toggle switch next to it.
  3. Click the toggle switch to change your status:
    • If currently On duty, the switch shows "On duty" -- click it to turn yourself off duty.
    • If currently Off duty, the switch shows "Off duty" -- click it to turn yourself on duty.

If turning yourself ON duty:

  1. A dialog box appears titled Verify contact number.
  2. The dialog displays the message: "Confirm your contact/bleeper number below. Team members can use this to reach you while On Duty."
  3. Enter or confirm your contact/bleeper number in the text field.
  4. Click the Confirm button.
  5. Your duty status changes to "On duty" and the toggle switch updates.

If turning yourself OFF duty:

  1. Your duty status immediately changes to "Off duty" -- no confirmation required.
  2. The toggle switch updates to show your new status.
Setting Your Duty Status at Login

The first time you log in whilst off duty, you'll see a welcome screen:

  1. After entering your credentials and clicking Log in, you'll see a heading: "Welcome back [Your First Name]".
  2. Below this, a question appears: "Would you like to set yourself to on duty?"
  3. Click Yes to set yourself on duty, or No to remain off duty.
  4. You'll enter the application with your selected duty status.

This welcome prompt only appears when you're currently off duty. Once you've made a selection, you'll need to use your profile to change duty status again.

Organisation Administrators Setting Duty Status for Others

Administrators can manage duty status for any verified user:

  1. From the sidebar, select My Organization.
  2. Click the Members tab.
  3. Locate the user in the members table.
  4. Click the kebab menu (⋮) on the user's row.
  5. Select either:
    • Set to ON duty (if the user is currently off duty), or
    • Set to OFF duty (if the user is currently on duty).
  6. The user's duty status updates immediately -- no confirmation dialog appears.

Note: This option only appears for users who have verified their mobile number.

Checking Your Current Duty Status

Your current duty status is always visible in the sidebar profile section, displayed as either "On duty (your role)" or "Off duty (your role)" beneath your name.

Tips
  • When you turn yourself on duty, you must confirm your contact/bleeper number. This ensures your team knows how to reach you whilst you're available.
  • Turning yourself off duty is instant -- there's no contact number check.
  • If you're going off shift, remember to hand over your patients before setting yourself off duty. This ensures continuity of care.
  • Organisation administrators can set other users' duty status from the Members tab in My Organization. This is useful for managing team availability.
  • The duty status setting is only available to organisational users (administrators, team owners, and clinical users). It is not available to system users.
