Introduction
Your contact number (also called a bleep or work phone number) is the number your team members can use to reach you while you're on duty. CAREFUL prompts you to verify this number each time you switch to "On duty" status, ensuring your colleagues always have the correct contact information.
Before You Start
No special permissions required. Any organisational user (Administrator, Team Owner, or Clinical User) can set their own contact number. Administrators can also set contact numbers for other users.
Note: Your contact number is different from your mobile number. Your mobile number is used for logging in and receiving SMS notifications, while your contact number is specifically for team members to reach you during shifts.
Steps
Setting Your Contact Number When Going On Duty
-
Click on your name or profile photo at the bottom of the sidebar to open your User Profile page
-
Locate the "On duty"/"Off duty" toggle switch in the page header (it appears next to your name)
-
Click the toggle to switch from "Off duty" to "On duty"
-
The "Verify contact number" dialogue box automatically appears with the message: "Confirm your contact/bleeper number below. Team members can use this to reach you while On Duty."
-
Review the contact number shown in the text input field
- If this is your first time, the field may be empty
- If you've set a number previously, it will be pre-populated
-
Enter or update your contact number as needed (e.g., your bleep number, work mobile, or ward phone extension)
-
Click the "Confirm" button or press ENTER on your keyboard to save
- The dialogue closes automatically
- Your on-duty status activates
- Your contact number is updated on your profile
Alternative: If you don't want to change your contact number, click the X (close icon) to close the dialogue. You'll still switch to on-duty status, but your contact number won't be updated.
If You Encounter Validation Errors
If you enter an invalid contact number, an error message appears below the input field with a notification icon. Correct the error and click "Confirm" again.
Tips
-
Smart validation: The system only submits an update if you've entered a new or changed contact number. If you leave the field unchanged (or empty), CAREFUL won't make unnecessary updates.
-
Keyboard shortcut: Press ENTER to quickly submit the form without clicking the Confirm button.
-
Leave blank if needed: You can switch to on-duty status without entering a contact number—just close the dialogue or leave the field empty. However, team members won't know how to reach you.
-
Update anytime: The verification dialogue appears every time you toggle to on-duty, giving you an opportunity to update your contact number if it's changed (e.g., moved to a different ward or using a different bleep).
-
Login prompt: When you first log in, CAREFUL may ask "Would you like to set yourself to on duty?" Selecting "Yes" will activate your on-duty status but won't trigger the contact number dialogue at that point—you'll see it next time you manually toggle on-duty.
