CAREFUL

How is your mobile number used?

Introduction

CAREFUL uses two different phone numbers for different purposes: your login phone number for authentication, and your contact number for colleagues to reach you. Understanding the difference helps protect your privacy while allowing effective team communication.

Before You Start

No special permissions required. All users have both a login phone number and can optionally set a contact number.

The Two Phone Numbers
Login Phone Number (Private)

Your login phone number is the number you use to sign into CAREFUL. This is a personal credential that is never displayed to other users in your organisation.

Where you'll see it:

  • In the login form when signing in
  • In your profile under "Cell / Mobile number" (with most of the digits masked, e.g. +441632*****960)
  • When receiving verification codes via SMS

Privacy protection:

  • Never visible to other users
  • Always displayed with masking when shown to you
  • Used only for authentication purposes
Contact Number (Public)

Your contact number is displayed on your user profile so that colleagues can reach you, especially when you're on duty. This can be any appropriate number for work communication.

Where you'll see it:

  • In your profile under "Contact / Bleep number" (shown in full, not masked)
  • When setting yourself to on duty (you'll be asked to verify it)
  • On other users' profiles (you can see their contact numbers)

Common uses:

  • Your personal mobile (if you're happy sharing it with colleagues)
  • A pager or bleep number
  • A department phone line
  • Your secretary's number
  • Hospital switchboard extension
How to Update Each Number
Changing Your Login Phone Number
  1. Navigate to your profile (click your name in the top-right corner)
  2. Click the Profile tab
  3. From the kebab menu (⋮), select "Change Cell/Mobile number"
  4. Enter your new phone number
  5. You'll receive a verification code via SMS to confirm the change

Important: This will change how you log into CAREFUL, so make sure you have access to the new number before confirming.

Updating Your Contact Number

Method 1: Via Profile Edit

  1. Navigate to your profile
  2. Click the Profile tab
  3. From the kebab menu (⋮), select "Edit"
  4. Update the "Contact / Bleep number" field
  5. Click Save

Method 2: When Setting Yourself On Duty

  2. Toggle the On Duty switch
  3. A dialogue box appears asking you to verify your contact number
  4. Update the "Contact / Bleep number" if needed
  5. Click Save to confirm
Tips
  • Keep them separate for privacy: Use a different number for login versus your public contact details if you prefer to keep your personal mobile private
  • Update before going on duty: Make sure your contact number is current before setting yourself on duty so colleagues can reach you
  • Use departmental numbers: If you don't want to share your personal mobile, use a pager, department phone, or switchboard number as your contact
  • Your choice: You can use the same number for both if you're comfortable with that, or keep them completely separate
