How to Set Yourself On Duty or Off Duty

Introduction

The duty status feature allows you to indicate whether you're currently available to receive handovers and notifications. When you're on duty, you'll receive mobile notifications about your patients and team communications. When you're off duty, colleagues can see you're unavailable and notifications are paused.

Before You Start

Prerequisites:

  • You must have verified your mobile number before you can change your duty status
  • You need to be logged in as an organisational user (Administrator, Team Owner, or Clinical User)

Important: Each team member can only change their own duty status. Administrators cannot change other users' duty status on their behalf.

Steps
Setting Your Duty Status from My Organisation
  1. From the sidebar, click My Organization
  2. Click the Members tab (the third tab after Patients and Actions)
  3. Find your own name in the members table
  4. Click the kebab menu button (⋮) on the right side of your row
  5. Select either:
    • Set to ON duty (with an enter icon) if you're currently off duty
    • Set to OFF duty (with an exit icon) if you're currently on duty

The change takes effect immediately with no confirmation dialogue.

Alternative: Setting Duty Status from a Team View
  1. From the sidebar, click Teams to expand the team list
  2. Click on any team you're a member of
  3. Click the Members tab
  4. Find your own name in the members table
  5. Click the kebab menu button (⋮) on your row
  6. Select Set to ON duty or Set to OFF duty
What Happens Next

After changing your duty status:

  • Your status updates immediately in the sidebar profile section (e.g., "On duty (admin)" or "Off duty (staff)")
  • An audit log entry is created: "Set self on duty" or "Set self off duty"
  • If you set yourself on duty: you'll receive mobile notifications about your patients and team activities
  • If you set yourself off duty: mobile notifications are paused and colleagues can see you're unavailable
Tips
  • Check your sidebar: Your current duty status is always visible in the sidebar profile area at the top of the left-hand menu
  • Mobile verification required: If you don't see the duty status options in the kebab menu, you need to verify your mobile number first. Contact your administrator or verify your mobile from your user profile
  • Login prompt: When logging in, you may be asked "Would you like to set yourself to on duty?" if you were off duty when you last logged out
  • Auto off-duty on logout: You can enable a user setting called "Also set me to off duty when I log out" to automatically change your status when signing out
  • Handover first: If you have patients assigned to you, consider handing them over before setting yourself to off duty
  • No confirmation needed: The change is instant, so be intentional when toggling your status
Common Questions

Why don't I see the duty status option? The duty status menu items only appear if you've verified your mobile number. Check your user profile to verify your mobile.

Can an administrator change my duty status? No. Each user can only change their own duty status. This ensures individual accountability for availability.

What's the difference between on duty and off duty? When on duty, you receive mobile notifications and appear available for handovers. When off duty, notifications are paused and colleagues know you're unavailable.

Where else can I see my duty status? Your duty status appears in the sidebar profile section (top of the left-hand menu) showing either "On duty (role)" or "Off duty (role)".
