CAREFUL

Quick Close Action Button

Introduction

The quick close action button allows you to complete simple actions quickly without opening a full completion dialog. This feature is designed for actions that don't require detailed result notes or attachments, enabling you to close tasks with just two clicks.

Before You Start
  • You must be assigned to the action you want to close
  • The action must be open (not already completed)
  • You need to be a member of the team that owns the patient

No special permissions are required beyond standard team membership.

Where to Find the Quick Close Button

The quick close button appears in several locations throughout CAREFUL:

My Actions page (most common):

  1. Click My Actions in the sidebar
  2. Look for the green checkmark icon (✓) in the rightmost column of each open action row

Team Actions tab:

  1. Click Teams in the sidebar to expand the teams list
  2. Click your team name
  3. Click the Actions tab
  4. The quick close button appears in the same location

Patient Actions tab:

  1. Navigate to a patient's record
  2. Click the Actions tab
  3. The quick close button appears for each open action
How to Quick Close an Action
  1. Locate the action you want to close in the actions table
  2. Click the green checkmark icon (✓) on the right side of the action row
  3. The button immediately changes to show Click to Complete (green button with text)
  4. You have 2 seconds to click the Click to Complete button to confirm

To confirm: Click Click to Complete within 2 seconds. The action will close immediately and disappear from your list.

To cancel: Either wait 2 seconds without clicking, or click anywhere else on the page. The button will revert to the checkmark icon.

What Happens When You Quick Close

When you successfully quick close an action:

  • The action is marked as complete with no result notes or attachments
  • The action immediately disappears from your open actions list
  • Your overdue actions count badge in the sidebar updates (if the action was overdue)
  • The closure is logged in the patient's audit trail, team log, and organisation log
  • Team members viewing the same patient or team will see the updated actions list

No success notification appears — the action simply vanishes from the list, providing immediate visual feedback.

Quick Close vs Complete Action Dialog

The quick close button is designed for speed, but it has limitations:

Use quick close when:

  • The action is simple and needs no explanation
  • You don't need to attach documents or images
  • You want to clear actions quickly

Use the Complete Action dialog when:

  • You need to add result notes explaining what was done
  • You want to attach files, photos, or documents
  • The action requires detailed documentation for the clinical record

To access the full completion dialog, click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the quick close button, then select Complete Action.

Tips
  • The 2-second window prevents accidents: If you accidentally click the checkmark, simply wait 2 seconds and it will reset — no harm done
  • Quick close leaves no notes: If you realise you should have documented something, you'll need to add it as a separate patient note in the Notes tab
  • Watch for the spinner: During submission, the button shows a loading spinner. An overlay prevents you from clicking elsewhere until the action completes
  • Keyboard users: The checkmark button has an accessibility label "Close action" for screen readers
Common Issues

Button doesn't appear:

  • Check the action is open (not already closed)
  • Verify you're assigned to the action
  • Confirm you're a member of the patient's team

Action reappears after closing:

  • This may indicate a network error. Check your connection and try again
  • If the problem persists, use the full Complete Action dialog instead

Can't click fast enough:

  • The 2-second window should be ample for most users
  • If you find it too short, consider using the Complete Action dialog from the kebab menu instead
