Introduction
Filter your patient lists by status to quickly find patients who are active, inactive, awaiting a specific clinical state, or have no status assigned. This helps you focus on the patients who need your attention most.
Before You Start
No special permissions required. All team members can filter patient lists in their teams and in My Patients view.
Steps
Filtering in My Patients
- From the sidebar, click My Patients
- In the top-right corner of the screen, click the filter icon (funnel symbol)
- The filter dropdown expands below the navigation bar
- Click the Select button under "Patient status:"
- Choose a status from the list:
- Active Patients – shows all patients currently under care (this is the default view)
- No status – shows patients who haven't been assigned a status yet
- Your organisation's custom statuses (e.g., "Awaiting Discharge", "Under Investigation")
- The patient list updates immediately to show only patients with the selected status
- The filter icon becomes highlighted to indicate a filter is active
- To view the Show clinical summaries option, tick the checkbox if it appears below the status dropdown (this toggles the display of clinical notes in the patient list)
Filtering in a Team View
- From the sidebar, click Teams to expand the teams list
- Click the name of the team whose patients you want to filter
- Ensure you're on the Patients tab (this is the default view when you open a team)
- In the top-right corner, click the filter icon (funnel symbol)
- Click the Select button under "Patient status:"
- Choose a status from the list:
- Active Patients – all patients currently in the team
- No status – patients with no status assigned
- Inactive – patients who have been discharged from all teams (only visible in team views)
- Your organisation's custom statuses
- The team's patient list updates immediately to show only those matching the selected status
- The filter icon becomes highlighted
Clearing the Filter
- Click the filter icon again
- Select Active Patients from the dropdown
- The filter is removed and the full patient list reappears
- The filter icon returns to its normal (non-highlighted) state
Tips
- Your filter selection persists – if you navigate away from the page and return, the filter remains active. This helps maintain continuity when checking in on specific patient groups throughout your shift
- "Active Patients" is not a status – it's a special filter option that shows all patients under care, regardless of their actual status (including those with no status). This is different from "No status", which shows only patients who haven't been assigned a status
- Inactive patients only appear in team views – the My Patients view automatically excludes inactive patients from the filter options, as you can't be responsible for inactive patients
- Combine with search – you can use the patient filter and the search bar together. For example, filter by "Awaiting Discharge" status, then search for a specific patient name within that filtered list
- Mobile layout – on mobile devices, tap the filter icon and the dropdown appears in the same location. All functionality is identical
