Introduction
Handover categories allow teams to track structured information about patients (such as mobility status, dietary requirements, or risk assessments). You can toggle the visibility of these categories on the team patient list to show or hide this additional clinical information as needed.
Before You Start
- You must be a member of a team that has handover categories configured
- The team must have at least one handover category defined (Team Owners and Administrators can add categories via Manage Handover Categories in the team functions menu)
- This feature is available on both desktop and mobile devices
Steps
-
From the sidebar, click Teams to expand the team list, then click the name of the team you want to view
-
Ensure you're on the Patients tab (this is the default tab when you open a team)
-
In the top navigation bar, click the tree icon button (handover toggle button)
- On desktop, this appears automatically in the top right area
- On mobile, this may be in the hamburger menu
-
A panel slides down showing two toggle switches: Show Handover Categories and Show Actions
-
Click the switch next to Show Handover Categories to turn it on
- The switch turns purple when active
- The icon changes to an eye symbol
-
Handover category information now appears beneath each patient's clinical summary in the patient list
- Categories are displayed in a grid layout (1-3 columns depending on your screen size)
- Each category shows its name (e.g., "Mobility", "Diet", "Safeguarding") and current value
- If no data has been entered for a category, you'll see "No data available"
-
To hide the categories again, click the switch to turn it off
- The switch turns light grey when inactive
- The icon changes to an info symbol
- The category sections disappear from the patient list
Tips
- Your preference (show or hide) is saved automatically and will persist when you return to the team
- Each team's categories are independent -- different teams may have different category sets
- You can toggle categories on and off as many times as needed during your workflow
- The Show Actions toggle works the same way but controls the visibility of patient actions rather than handover categories
- If you don't see the handover categories toggle at all, the team may not have any categories configured yet -- contact your Team Owner or Administrator to set them up
