Introduction
Team chat enables real-time messaging and collaboration within a specific team. As an organisation administrator, you can enable or disable the chat feature for individual teams to control how your clinical staff communicate.
Before You Start
Required permissions:
- You must be an Organisation Administrator
- Your organisation must have chat functionality enabled
Important notice: Changing team chat settings will immediately log you out of CAREFUL. You will need to sign back in after making this change.
Steps
-
From the sidebar, click on the name of the team you want to configure under the Teams section
-
The team view opens showing the team's patients and details
-
Click the kebab menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of the screen
-
From the dropdown menu, select Update Team Chat Settings
-
A dialog box appears with the title "Update Team Chat Settings"
-
You'll see a warning message: "Notice: You will be logged out and asked to re-authenticate yourself"
-
Below the warning, you'll see a toggle switch labelled Enable Team Chat with options Yes and No
-
Click the toggle to switch between Yes (enable chat) or No (disable chat)
-
The system immediately processes your change:
- A loading spinner appears briefly
- The team chat setting is updated
- You are automatically logged out
-
Sign back in using your credentials to continue working
Tips
-
Plan the timing: Because you'll be logged out immediately after changing this setting, make this change when you can afford a brief interruption to your workflow
-
Team chat vs organisation chat: Even if your organisation has chat enabled, you can control it separately for each team. This gives you flexibility to enable chat only for teams that need it
-
Immediate effect: Once you toggle the setting, the change happens instantly. Team members will see the Chat tab appear (or disappear) in the team view after they refresh their session
-
No confirmation prompt: The toggle acts as both selection and submission. There's no separate "Save" button, so be certain before clicking
