Introduction
The instance indicator is a visual safety feature that helps you identify which CAREFUL environment you're using. It displays a colored border around the entire application with a badge in the bottom-right corner, preventing accidental data entry into non-production environments.
Before You Start
No special permissions required. The instance indicator appears automatically for all users and cannot be disabled.
Understanding the Instance Indicator
The indicator you see depends on which CAREFUL environment you're accessing and your organization's verification status:
Demo Site Indicator
If you see a yellow border with a "DEMO SITE" badge in the bottom-right corner, you are using the DEMO instance of CAREFUL. This is a training environment where you can practice without affecting real patient data.
The DEMO instance is intended for:
- Training new staff members
- Testing new features
- Demonstrations to prospective users
Sandbox Site Indicator
If you see an orange-red border with a "SANDBOX SITE" badge in the bottom-right corner, you are using the SANDBOX instance. This is a development environment for testing integrations and advanced features.
Free Trial Indicator
If you see an orange border with a "FREE TRIAL" badge in the bottom-right corner, you are using the PRODUCTION instance, but your organization has not yet been verified by CAREFUL.
To register your organization and remove this indicator, email hello@careful.online.
No Indicator
If there is no colored border or badge, you are using the PRODUCTION instance and your organization is authorized and verified. This is the live environment where real patient care is coordinated.
Mobile Display
On mobile devices (screens smaller than 1024px), the colored border remains visible but the text badge is hidden to save screen space. You can still identify your environment by the border color:
- Yellow border = DEMO
- Orange-red border = SANDBOX
- Orange border = FREE TRIAL
- No border = PRODUCTION (verified)
Tips
- Always check the indicator before entering patient data - the colored border is your safety reminder that you're in a non-production environment
- The indicator cannot be dismissed - it remains visible throughout your session to prevent confusion
- Different URLs, different indicators - accessing CAREFUL from a URL containing "demo" or "sandbox" automatically displays the appropriate indicator
