How to view outstanding actions for a patient

Introduction

Outstanding actions are open tasks that need to be completed for a patient's care. Viewing a patient's outstanding actions helps you track what needs to be done, who's responsible, and when tasks are due. All actions are shown in the patient's Actions tab, with color-coded status indicators to highlight urgent tasks.

Before You Start

  • You must have access to the patient (they must be in one of your teams)
  • No special permissions are required beyond standard team membership

Steps

  1. Find the patient using the search function or navigate to one of your teams
  2. Click on the patient's name to open their profile
  3. Click the Actions tab at the top of the patient profile
  4. The Actions tab displays all outstanding (open) actions for this patient by default
  5. Each action shows:
    • A colored status indicator (Open in blue, Soon in yellow for actions due within 24 hours, Overdue in red, or Closed in gray)
    • The action title
    • Who the action is assigned to (with their job title and specialty)
    • When the action was created
    • When the action is due
  6. To include completed actions in the view, check the Show completed actions checkbox above the table
  7. Click on any action row to view full details including progress notes and attachments
  8. To quickly complete an action, click the checkmark icon, then click Click to Complete to confirm
  9. For more options, click the three-dot menu on any action row to:
    • Complete Action (with detailed results)
    • Reassign Action to another team member
    • Update Progress by adding a note
    • View Attachments if any files are attached

Tips

  • The Actions tab shows a red indicator icon when a patient has overdue actions
  • Actions marked Soon (yellow) are due within the next 24 hours -- prioritize these
  • Use Show completed actions to review the patient's care history and see what's been done
  • Click column headers to sort actions by different criteria (creation date, due date, assigned user)
  • You can create a new action directly from this tab using the input field at the bottom of the actions list
  • Create Actions - Learn how to add new tasks for patient care
  • View My Actions - See all actions assigned to you across all patients
  • Complete Actions - Mark tasks as finished with results and notes
