Introduction
When you need to revoke administrative privileges from an organization administrator, you can demote them to a standard organization member. This removes their ability to manage organization settings, invite users, and perform other administrative functions while allowing them to continue working as a clinical team member.
Before You Start
- You must be an Organization Administrator to demote other administrators
- You will need access to your registered phone or email to complete OTP (One-Time Password) verification
- The user being demoted will immediately lose administrator privileges once the process completes
Steps
-
From the sidebar, select Organisation to view your organization management page.
-
Locate the administrator you want to demote in the organization members table. You can identify administrators by looking at the Role column, which displays "Admin" for administrators.
-
Click the action menu (⋮) on the right side of the administrator's row.
-
From the menu that appears, select Demote from Organization Admin.
-
A confirmation dialog appears with the title "Confirm Demotion from Organization Admin" and the message "Are you sure you want to Demote [FirstName] [LastName] to a Organization Member?"
-
Review the confirmation message carefully, then click Yes to proceed (or Cancel to abort the operation).
-
An OTP verification dialog appears displaying the message "Verification code sent to [phone] and [email]. You can use either one."
-
Check your registered phone (via SMS) or email for the verification code.
-
Enter the verification code in the code entry field.
-
Click the submit button to complete the verification.
-
The system processes your request, updates the user's role, and logs the action in the audit trail. The dialog closes automatically upon successful completion.
-
The user's role in the organization members table now displays "Staff" instead of "Admin", confirming the demotion was successful.
Tips
- Security First: OTP verification is required for all administrator role changes to prevent unauthorized privilege modifications.
- Immediate Effect: Once demoted, the user loses administrator access immediately. Plan accordingly if they need to complete any administrative tasks first.
- Reversible Action: You can promote the user back to administrator at any time using the "Promote to Organization Admin" option from their action menu.
- Team Access Maintained: Demoting an administrator does not remove them from their clinical teams. They retain access to their team patients and actions.
- Check Both Channels: If you don't receive the OTP code quickly, check both your phone and email—you can use the code from either source.
