How to Set Yourself On and Off Duty

Introduction

Your duty status controls whether you receive push notifications for urgent updates and indicates to your team whether you're available for clinical work. When you're on duty, team members can see your contact/bleeper number and send you handover requests. When off duty, notifications are paused and colleagues know you're unavailable.

Before You Start

  • You must be an organization user with a verified mobile number or email address
  • Unverified users cannot change their duty status
  • Your duty status is visible to all members of your organization

Steps

Method 1: From Your User Profile (Most Common)

To set yourself ON duty:

  1. Click your profile name in the sidebar, or navigate to User Profile from the main menu
  2. Locate the toggle switch next to your name at the top of the page—it will show "Off duty" in a dimmed state
  3. Click the toggle switch
  4. A dialog box appears with the title "Verify contact number"
  5. Review the message: "Confirm your contact/bleeper number below. Team members can use this to reach you while On Duty."
  6. Enter or confirm your contact/bleeper number in the text input field
  7. Click the "Confirm" button (or click "Cancel" if you change your mind)
  8. The toggle switch updates to show "On duty" with a green background
  9. Your status is now visible to your team, and you'll receive push notifications on mobile

To set yourself OFF duty:

  1. From your User Profile screen, locate the toggle switch next to your name—it will show "On duty" in green
  2. Click the toggle switch
  3. Your status immediately changes to "Off duty" (no confirmation dialog appears)
  4. The toggle switch updates to show "Off duty" with reduced opacity
  5. Push notifications are now paused, and your team can see you're unavailable

Method 2: From the Login Screen (Mobile Only)

When logging in on mobile while currently off duty:

  1. After entering your credentials and signing in, you'll see a welcome message: "Welcome back [Your First Name]"
  2. Read the information: "When on duty, you'll receive push notifications for urgent updates on your mobile app. When off duty, notifications are paused."
  3. You'll see the question: "Would you like to set yourself to on duty?"
  4. Click "Yes" to go on duty, or "No" to remain off duty
  5. The app redirects you to the home screen with your chosen duty status

Tips

  • Set yourself off duty when finishing your shift to avoid receiving clinical notifications during your off-hours
  • Your contact/bleeper number is only visible when you're on duty, protecting your privacy when unavailable
  • The contact number verification dialog only appears when going ON duty, not when going off—this ensures your team always has current contact information
  • Administrators and Team Owners can also change your duty status from team member tables if needed for operational management
  • Your duty status affects handover workflows—colleagues may be less likely to send you handover requests when you're marked off duty
  • The green "On duty" indicator makes it easy for teammates to see who's currently available at a glance
