How to Rename a Team

Introduction

Team owners and organization administrators can change a team's name at any time. This is useful when team structures change, such as when a ward is reorganized or a department is renamed. Renaming a team updates the name everywhere in CAREFUL, including team lists, patient records, and handover requests.

Before You Start

Required permissions: You must be either:

  • The team owner, OR
  • An organization administrator

Standard team members cannot rename teams.

Steps

  1. From the sidebar, select My Teams to view your teams list.

  2. Click on the team you want to rename to open the team detail page.

  3. In the top right corner of the screen, click the kebab menu (⋮) to open the actions menu.

  4. From the dropdown menu, select Rename team. A modal dialog appears with the title "Rename Team".

  5. In the Team Name field, you'll see the current team name. Edit this field to enter the new team name. The cursor automatically focuses on the text input.

  6. Click the Submit button to save the new name. The button will show a loading state while the change is being saved.

  7. The dialog closes automatically once the rename is successful. You'll see the updated team name in:

    • The team list in the sidebar
    • The team detail page header
    • All patients associated with this team
    • Any pending handovers or referrals

To cancel: Click outside the dialog box or press the X button to close without saving changes.

Tips

  • Team names should be descriptive: Use names that clearly identify the team's function or location (e.g., "Ward 3A" or "Cardiology Outreach Team").

  • Changes are immediate: Once you click Submit, the new name applies across the entire platform. All team members will see the updated name.

  • Validation errors: If your team name is invalid (for example, if it's empty or too long), the form will display an error message below the Team Name field. Correct the issue and click Submit again.

  • Submit button is disabled during save: While the API request is processing, the Submit button will show a pending state and cannot be clicked again. This prevents duplicate submissions.
