How to Reject a Referral

Introduction

When your team receives a referral that you cannot accept, you can reject it to notify the sending team. Rejecting a referral removes it from your team's received referrals list and allows the referring team to make alternative arrangements for the patient.

Before You Start

• You must be a member of the team that received the referral
• The referral must be in your team's "Referrals received" list
• No special permissions required - all team members can reject referrals

Steps

1. From the sidebar, click My Teams
2. Select the team that received the referral you want to reject
3. Scroll down to the Referrals received section
4. Locate the referral in the table - you'll see the patient name, source team, any notes, and attachments
5. In the actions column on the right, click the red Reject button (marked with an X icon)
6. The button will show a loading indicator while the rejection is processed
7. Once complete, the referral will disappear from your "Referrals received" list

The referring team will be notified that their referral was rejected and can make alternative care arrangements.

Tips

• No confirmation required: Clicking Reject immediately processes the rejection - there's no confirmation dialog, so make sure you want to reject before clicking
• No rejection reason: The current system doesn't require you to enter a reason for rejection. Consider contacting the referring team directly if you need to explain why the referral cannot be accepted
• Instant removal: Rejected referrals are immediately removed from your view - if you need to reference the referral details, note them before rejecting
• Error handling: If the rejection fails (for example, due to network issues), you'll see a "Referral Error" dialog with details. Click Cancel to dismiss it and try again
