How to Make an Owner a Team Member

Introduction

As an Organization Administrator, you can demote a Team Owner back to a standard Team Member. This is useful when restructuring team leadership or when an owner's role responsibilities change.

Before You Start

  • Required Permission: You must be an Organization Administrator to demote Team Owners
  • Important: Team Owners cannot demote other Team Owners - only Organization Admins have this capability
  • The Team Owner you want to demote must be a verified user (mobile and email verified)
  • You cannot change your own role

Steps

  1. From the sidebar, click My Teams

  2. Select the team containing the Team Owner you want to demote

  3. Click the Members tab to view all team members

  4. (Optional) Use the search box to quickly find the Team Owner by typing their first or last name

  5. Locate the Team Owner's row in the member table - the Team Role column will display "Team Owner"

  6. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the Actions column for that Team Owner

  7. From the dropdown menu, select Demote to Team Member

  8. A confirmation dialog appears with the title "Confirm Demotion to Team Member" and the message "Are you sure you want to Demote [FirstName] [LastName] to a Team Member?"

  9. Click Yes to confirm the demotion

  10. The team data refreshes automatically and the user's Team Role column updates from "Team Owner" to "Member"

Tips

  • Permission Check: If you don't see the "Demote to Team Member" option, verify that you're logged in as an Organization Administrator - Team Owners cannot demote other owners
  • Verification Required: The demote option only appears for verified users. If you don't see it for a Team Owner, they may need to verify their mobile number or email first
  • Audit Trail: All role changes are logged in the system's audit trail for compliance purposes
  • Cannot Self-Demote: The action menu won't show role change options for your own user account - you'll need another administrator to change your role
  • Team Ownership: Consider whether the team needs another Team Owner before demoting - teams should typically have at least one owner for management tasks
