How to Find Received Handovers

Introduction

When a colleague hands over patient responsibility to you, the handover appears in your received handovers list. You can review the details, accept to take on the patient(s), or reject the handover if you're unable to take responsibility.

Before You Start

  • No special permissions required - all organization users can receive handovers
  • Handovers must be sent to you by another user first
  • The sidebar will show a badge count when you have pending handover requests

Steps

  1. From the left sidebar, click Handovers

    • The badge next to "Handovers" shows how many pending requests you have
  2. The Handover requests page opens with two tabs: Received and Sent

    • The Received tab displays by default and shows a badge with the count of pending requests
  3. Review the handover details in the table:

    • Patients column shows the patient name(s) being handed over
    • If multiple patients are included, you'll see the first patient name followed by "and X more" - click this link to expand the full list
    • From user column shows who sent the handover request
    • For team-based handovers, you'll see the source team name displayed
  4. To accept a handover, click the green Accept button (with checkmark icon) on the right

    • The handover will be processed and you'll receive responsibility for the patient(s)
    • The handover will be removed from your received list automatically
  5. To reject a handover, click the red Reject button (with cross icon)

    • You'll see a confirmation message: "Click again to reject"
    • Click the Reject button a second time to confirm
    • The handover will be removed from your received list
  6. If you have no pending handovers, you'll see the message: "You currently have no pending handover requests"

Tips

  • The Received tab badge count helps you quickly see how many handovers need your attention
  • When you accept a handover, the patient(s) immediately appear in your My Patients view
  • Use the Reject button if you're going off duty, at capacity, or the handover was sent in error
  • The double-click confirmation on Reject prevents accidental rejections
  • Switch to the Sent tab to check the status of handovers you've sent to others
