How to Filter Patients by Status

Introduction

The patient filter allows you to view only patients with a specific status (such as "Admitted", "Discharged", or "Deceased") in your patient lists. This helps you focus on relevant patients and manage your workload more effectively.

Before You Start

No special permissions required. The filter is available to all users who can view patient lists.

The status options you see will reflect your organisation's configured statuses.

Steps

In My Patients View:

  1. From the sidebar, select My Patients
  2. Click the filter icon button in the top navigation bar (it looks like a funnel icon)
  3. The filter panel slides open, displaying filtering options
  4. If desired, check or uncheck Show clinical summaries to toggle the display of clinical information in the patient table
  5. Click the status dropdown (it will show Select as the placeholder)
  6. Select a status from the dropdown menu:
    • Active Patients - Shows all patients with any status except inactive (this is the default view)
    • No status - Shows only patients who have not been assigned a status
    • Your organisation's custom statuses (e.g., "Admitted", "Discharged", "Deceased")
  7. The dropdown closes automatically and the patient table refreshes to show only patients matching your selected status
  8. The filter button will display a highlighted state to indicate a filter is active
  9. On mobile, the selected status appears in the page title (e.g., "My Patients - Admitted")

To view all active patients again:

  1. Click the filter icon button
  2. Select Active Patients from the dropdown

To change your filter:

  1. Click the filter icon button (it will show the highlighted state)
  2. Select a different status from the dropdown
  3. The patient list updates immediately

Tips

  • Your filter persists: Your selected filter is saved automatically and will be applied the next time you visit the page
  • Active vs Inactive: "Active Patients" shows patients with any status (including "No status") except those marked as inactive. This is the broadest view of your current patients
  • No status patients: The "No status" option helps you identify patients who haven't been assigned a status yet and may need review
  • Mobile display: On mobile devices, the currently selected status appears in the page title for quick reference
  • Combined with search: You can use the status filter together with the search function to find specific patients within a status group
  • Organisation-specific: The status options reflect your organisation's configuration. Common statuses include "Admitted", "Discharged", "Deceased", and organisation-specific categories
