Introduction
If you've sent a handover request to a colleague but need to withdraw it, you can cancel the request before they accept or reject it. This is useful when circumstances change, such as when you decide to remain responsible for the patient or need to send the handover to a different colleague.
Before You Start
- You must have previously sent a handover request that is still pending
- You cannot cancel a handover that has already been accepted or rejected
- No special permissions required - any user can cancel their own sent handover requests
Steps
- From the sidebar, select Handover requests
- Click the Sent tab to view all handover requests you've sent to other users
- Locate the handover request you want to cancel in the table (you'll see the patient name and the target user's name)
- Click the red Cancel button (with an X icon) on the right side of that row
- The button text changes to Click to confirm - you have 3 seconds to confirm the cancellation
- Click Click to confirm to finalize the cancellation
- A loading spinner appears briefly while the request is being cancelled
- The handover request is removed from your Sent list and the other user will no longer see it in their Received requests
Note: If you don't click "Click to confirm" within 3 seconds, the button will automatically return to its normal state and no action will be taken. This safety feature prevents accidental cancellations.
Tips
- The confirmation button requires two clicks to prevent accidental cancellations of handover requests
- If you change your mind during the 3-second confirmation window, simply wait and the cancellation will not proceed
- When multiple patients are included in a handover, they'll be shown as "Patient Name and X more" - all patients in that handover will be cancelled together
- After cancelling, you can send a new handover request to a different colleague if needed
