How to Add a New Team

Introduction

Adding a new team in CAREFUL allows you to create a clinical unit (such as a ward, department, or specialist team) where healthcare professionals can collaborate on patient care. Teams organize patients, staff members, and clinical activities in one place.

Before You Start

• You must be an Administrator - Only users with administrator privileges can create new teams
• Team names must be unique - you cannot create a team with a name that already exists in your organization
• No special setup required

Steps

1. From the sidebar, click Teams to navigate to the Teams page

2. You'll see all teams in your organization displayed in a table

3. Click the Create a new Team button located in the top section of the page (it has a plus icon)

   • Alternatively, you can click the team selection dropdown at the top of the page and select New team

4. A dialog box titled Create Team appears with a single input field

5. In the Team Name field, enter the name for your new team (for example, "Ward 3A" or "Cardiology Outreach")

   • The cursor automatically focuses on this field when the dialog opens

6. Click the Submit button to create the team

   • A spinner appears briefly while the team is being created

7. The dialog closes automatically and you're taken directly to your new team's detail page

8. Your new team now appears in:

   • The "My Teams" list in the sidebar
   • The "All Teams" table on the Teams page
   • The team selection dropdown for quick navigation

Tips

• Choose descriptive names: Use clear team names that reflect the clinical unit or function (e.g., "Emergency Department" rather than "Team 1")
• Unique names required: If you try to create a team with an existing name, you'll see a validation error. Choose a different name and try again
• Next steps after creation: After creating a team, you'll want to add team members and patients. Use the Members tab to invite staff and the Patients tab to add patients
• Team ownership: As the creator, you may want to designate Team Owners who can manage the team independently
