Introduction
The Handovers view is your central hub for managing patient care transfers. Use it to accept or reject handover requests you've received from colleagues, and to track the status of handover requests you've sent to others.
Before You Start
- You must be logged in as a clinical user (Team Member, Team Owner, or Administrator)
- You can only see handovers that involve you as either the sender or receiver
- No special permissions required to view and manage your handovers
Steps
Viewing Received Handovers
- From the left-hand sidebar, click Handovers
- The view opens to the Received Handovers tab by default (indicated by a pink badge showing the count of pending requests)
- You'll see a table displaying all pending handover requests with:
- Patient name(s) - if multiple patients are involved, you can expand the list
- The colleague who sent the request (shown under "From user")
- Two action buttons: a green Accept button and a red Reject button
Accepting a Handover
- Click the green Accept button (checkmark icon) next to the handover you want to accept
- The button displays "Click again to accept" to confirm your intention
- Click the button a second time within 3 seconds to confirm
- The handover is completed, patient responsibility transfers to you, and the request disappears from your list
Rejecting a Handover
- Click the red Reject button (cross icon) next to the handover you want to decline
- The button displays "Click again to reject" to confirm
- Click the button again within 3 seconds to confirm
- The handover is rejected, the patient remains with the original clinician, and the request disappears from your list
Managing Sent Handovers
- Click the Sent Handovers tab to view handover requests you've initiated
- You'll see a table showing:
- Patient name(s)
- The colleague you sent the request to (shown under "To user")
- A red Cancel button
Cancelling a Sent Handover
- Click the red Cancel button (cross icon) next to the handover you want to withdraw
- Click the button again to confirm the cancellation
- The handover request is cancelled, the recipient no longer sees it, and the patient remains under your care
Tips
- Confirmation prevents mistakes: All buttons require two clicks within 3 seconds to prevent accidental actions during busy clinical work
- Badge notifications: The pink badge on the Received Handovers tab shows how many pending requests need your attention
- Multiple patients: Some handovers involve multiple patients at once. Click to expand the patient list to see all names
- Automatic updates: After accepting, rejecting, or cancelling a handover, your patient list and handover counts update automatically
- Tab persistence: The view remembers which tab you were on, so you can return to the same view later
