Introduction
If you've just added a clinical note to a patient and need to make a quick correction or addition, you can amend it within the first hour. This feature allows you to update your most recent note without creating an entirely new entry, keeping the patient's clinical history clean and accurate.
Before You Start
- You can only edit notes that you created (not notes written by colleagues)
- The note must have been created within the last hour
- You must have the patient open in the patient view
- The patient must be a member of at least one team
If these conditions aren't met, the "Edit Latest Note" option won't appear. After the one-hour window, you'll need to add a new note instead.
Steps
- From the sidebar, click My Patients or navigate to a team to find your patient
- Click on the patient's name to open their patient record
- At the top of the patient view, click the kebab menu (⋮)
- Select Edit Latest Note from the dropdown menu
- The "Amend latest notes" dialogue box appears with your existing note pre-filled in the New update field
- Edit the text as needed -- you can modify any part of the existing note
- Click Submit to save your changes
The dialogue box closes automatically when your amendment is saved. The updated note appears immediately in the patient's Notes tab, and the change is recorded in the audit log.
Tips
- Time limit reminder: You have one hour from when you first created the note. After that, the "Edit Latest Note" option disappears from the menu.
- Pre-filled content: When you open the edit dialogue, your current note text is already there. You don't need to retype everything -- just make your changes.
- No success message: There's no pop-up confirmation when you save. The dialogue simply closes, which means your edit succeeded. Check the Notes tab if you want to verify the updated text.
- Cancel anytime: Click the X in the top-right corner of the dialogue to close it without saving changes.
- Validation errors: If the system can't save your amendment (for example, if the field is left blank), an error message appears next to the field. The dialogue stays open so you can correct the issue and try again.
