Introduction
Logging out of CAREFUL securely ends your session and protects patient confidentiality. You can log out from multiple locations in the application, with options to set yourself off-duty at the same time.
Before You Start
No special permissions required. All users can log out at any time.
Note: You will be automatically logged out after a period of inactivity (typically 15 minutes) to maintain security.
Steps
Method 1: Quick Logout from Sidebar (Recommended)
- Locate the Log Out button at the bottom of the left-hand navigation sidebar
- Click the Log Out button (identified by an exit icon)
- You will be immediately logged out and redirected to the login page
Note: This method automatically sets you to off-duty when you log out.
Method 2: Logout from Settings (With Off-Duty Control)
- From the sidebar, click Settings
- Scroll to the logout section at the bottom of the Settings page
- (Optional) Check the box labeled "Also set me to off duty when I log out" if you want to be marked as unavailable
- Click the red Log Out button
- You will be logged out and redirected to the login page
Tip: Use this method if you want control over your duty status when logging out.
What Happens When You Log Out
When you log out, CAREFUL:
- Disconnects your chat session
- Clears all authentication tokens from your browser
- Resets your session data
- Redirects you to the login page
- Optionally sets you to off-duty (depending on method used)
Tips
- Log out regularly to protect patient confidentiality, especially when leaving your workstation
- Set yourself off-duty when logging out at the end of your shift so colleagues know you're unavailable for handovers
- Use Settings method if you're stepping away briefly and want to remain on-duty for when you return
- If you see a session timeout page, you can click "Click here to log out" to manually log out and sign in again
- If you experience chat connection issues, you may see a prompt to "Click here to sign in again and fix this issue" which will log you out and allow you to re-authenticate
Security Note
For patient safety and data protection, we strongly recommend logging out whenever you leave your workstation unattended. The automatic timeout provides a safety net, but manual logout is the most secure practice.
