Different CAREFUL Instances

Introduction

CAREFUL operates multiple separate instances (deployments) to serve different regions and purposes. The main production instances serve the United Kingdom and Australia, while DEMO and SANDBOX instances provide safe environments for training and testing without affecting real patient data.

Before You Start

• No special permissions required - All users can see which instance they're using
• Mobile users can select their region at login
• Desktop users are automatically directed to the correct instance based on the URL they visit

Understanding CAREFUL Instances

CAREFUL maintains five separate instances:

Identifying Your Current Instance

Desktop

When you're using DEMO or SANDBOX on desktop, you'll see clear visual indicators:

• DEMO: A yellow border (5px) around the entire application with a "DEMO SITE" badge in the bottom-right corner
• SANDBOX: An orange-red border (5px) around the entire application with a "SANDBOX SITE" badge in the bottom-right corner
• Production (UK/AU): No special borders or badges - clean interface

Mobile

On mobile devices:

• DEMO: Yellow border around the application (badge hidden to save screen space)
• SANDBOX: Orange-red border around the application (badge hidden to save screen space)
• Production (UK/AU): No special borders

Selecting Your Region (Mobile Only)

When logging in on the CAREFUL mobile app:

1. Open the CAREFUL app on your mobile device
2. On the login screen, you'll see "My region:" with flag selectors
3. Tap the flag selector to choose your region:
   • GB - United Kingdom instance
   • AU - Australia instance
4. Your selection is saved automatically and will be remembered for future logins
5. Enter your email/mobile number and password as normal
6. Tap Sign In

Switching Between Instances (Desktop)

To access a different instance on desktop:

1. Open your browser
2. Navigate to the appropriate URL:
   • UK Production: https://app.careful.online
   • Australia Production: https://au.careful.online
   • DEMO: https://app.demo.careful.online
   • SANDBOX: https://sandbox.careful.online
3. Log in with your credentials for that instance

Important: Your user account may not exist on all instances. Contact your system administrator if you need access to a specific instance.

Critical Safety Information

⚠️ Production vs. Training Instances

• PRODUCTION instances (UK/AU): All data entered here is REAL patient data. Every action is recorded in the audit log and visible to your colleagues. Use this for actual clinical work.

• DEMO instance: Used for training and demonstrations only. No real patient data should ever be entered. Data may be deleted or overwritten at any time. Any information stored here is temporary and for training purposes only.

• SANDBOX instance: Used for testing new features and workflows. No real patient data should be entered. This environment may be reset periodically.

The colored borders and badges exist specifically to prevent accidental entry of real patient data into training environments, or test data into production systems.

Deep Links and Push Notifications

If you receive a push notification on mobile that links to a specific patient or action:

1. Tap the notification
2. The app automatically detects which instance the link points to
3. The app switches to the correct instance (UK, AU, DEMO, or SANDBOX)
4. You're taken directly to the relevant patient or action

Your region preference is automatically updated to match the notification's instance.

Tips

• Always check the border color before entering patient data - yellow or orange borders mean you're in a training/test environment
• Bookmark your primary instance on desktop to avoid accidentally accessing the wrong environment
• Mobile users: Your region selection is persistent - you don't need to select it every time unless you're switching instances
• Training new staff: Direct them to the DEMO instance (https://app.demo.careful.online) to practice without risk to real patient data
• Testing new workflows: Use the SANDBOX instance to experiment with features before using them in production
