Introduction
Creating a new team in CAREFUL establishes a clinical unit where healthcare staff can collaborate on patient care. Teams represent distinct clinical areas such as wards, departments, or specialty units. Once created, you can add team members, assign patients, and manage handovers within that team.
Before You Start
- Required Permission: You must be an Administrator to create new teams
- Only administrators can see the team creation button
- Team names must be unique within your organization (maximum 100 characters)
Steps
- From the left-hand sidebar, click Teams to navigate to the Teams view
- The Teams page displays a table showing all existing teams with their access levels
- In the top right corner, click the Create a new Team button
- Alternatively, you can select New team from the dropdown navigation menu
- The Create Team dialog box appears
- In the Team Name field, enter a descriptive name for your new team (e.g., "Ward 3A" or "Cardiology Outreach")
- Click the Submit button to create the team
- A loading spinner appears while the system processes your request
- Once created, you are automatically redirected to the new team's page
- You are automatically set as the team owner
What Happens Next
After successful creation:
- The new team appears in the teams list
- You become the team owner with full management permissions
- The team is ready for you to add members and assign patients
- You can configure handover categories and other team settings
Tips
- Choose clear team names: Use names that clearly identify the clinical unit (e.g., "Emergency Department" rather than "Team 1")
- Team names must be unique: The system won't allow duplicate team names within your organization, even if capitalization differs
- Character limit: Keep team names under 100 characters
- Instant ownership: You're automatically made the team owner, so you can immediately start adding members
- Can't create a team?: If you don't see the "Create a new Team" button, you may not have administrator permissions. Contact your organization administrator to request access.
Common Issues
- "Team name already exists" error: Choose a different name. Team names must be unique within your organization, regardless of capitalization.
- Button not visible: Only administrators can create teams. If you need a new team created, contact your organization administrator.
