How to Change Your Password

Introduction

You can update your account password at any time through the Settings page. For security, you'll need to verify your identity by entering your current password before setting a new one.

Before You Start

• You must be logged in to CAREFUL
• You will need to know your current password
• No special permissions required - all users can change their own passwords

Steps

1. From the sidebar, click Settings
2. On the Settings page, you'll see version information and account options
3. Click the Change password button (blue button below the version information)
4. A dialog box titled Change Password appears with three password fields
5. Enter your existing password in the Current password field
6. Enter your desired new password in the New password field
7. Re-enter your new password in the Confirm Password field
8. If the passwords in the new password fields don't match, you'll see a red error message: Passwords must match
9. Once all three fields are filled and the new passwords match, click the Submit button
10. The dialog will show a loading state while processing your request
11. On success, the dialog automatically closes and your password is updated
12. If there's an error (such as incorrect current password), an error message will display in the dialog

Tips

• The Submit button remains disabled until you've filled in all three password fields, preventing accidental submissions
• Password validation happens when you click outside the Confirm Password field (on blur), giving you immediate feedback
• Your new password must be different from your current password - the system won't allow you to reuse the same password
• If you need to cancel, simply click the X button in the top-right corner of the dialog - your current password remains unchanged
• There is no password strength indicator shown in the interface, but the backend enforces password requirements
• You can also access the Change Password feature from your User Profile page
